Commemorates on: 15 of June Saint Augustine was a Philosopher and a Theologian and one of the most important figures in the development of Western Christianity. He was the son of Saint Monic and initially refused to become a Christian and lived as a pagan. He later converted to Christianity and became a bishop. Among the Orthodox he is called Blessed Augustine, or St. Augustine the Blessed. "Blessed" here does not mean that he is less than a Saint, but is a title bestowed upon him as a sign of respect. In the Orthodox Church he is an honored Saint and his feast day is celebrated on June 15. |
